Types of massageThere are a variety of massage types, techniques and styles. Some have been used for hundreds, even thousands of years. Everything from soft, gentle relaxing massage to a more aggressive, deep tissue massage. Each type has it's unique purpose and therapists often incorporate several types of massage within a single session or treatment plan based your needs.
Deep TissueFocusing on the deeper layers of muscle tissue, this technique targets chronic areas of tension or pain using slower strokes and deep, direct pressure. Soreness or tenderness may be experienced during or right after the massage but should go away within a day or two. Deep tissue massage loosens muscle fibers and releases toxins that have built up in the tissues. Drink plenty of water following the massage to help cleanse the body of the toxins being released.
Sports MassageUsed to help

prevent injury or aid in the recovery of an injury, sports massage relieves muscle tension, reduces swelling, increases flexibility and drains away the fatigue of physical activity. Sports massage applied before, during or after an event, promotes athletic endurance and reduces the risk of injury.
Reflexology This technique is a relaxing, pleasant and soothing experience that can bring balance to the mind, body and spirit. Considered to be a holistic healing technique, it is used as a whole body treatment by applying gentle massage to the feet and hands. It is believed that there are reflex areas on the feet and hands that correspond to all parts of the body including internal organs. This technique is often used to help relieve the pain of migraines, stress, sinus problems and digestive issues.
Hot StoneHeated, smooth stones are placed on specific points on the back, in the palm of the hands or between the toes to warm to help relax the

muscles. This allows the therapist to apply a lighter touch for those who prefer a more relaxing massage, while allowing for deeper pressure as needed. The warmth of the the hot stones improves circulation and calms the nervous system. It is often used as a treatment for back pain, arthritis pain, stress, anxiety, insomnia and depression.
